Cross Stitch Software Makes Pattern Creation Easy

Experienced cross stitchers know how frustrating it can be to search for a particular cross stitch pattern and not be able to find it. They have a mental picture of the desired design but it is nowhere to be found. Cross stitch software to the rescue!

Everyone has specific interests but, without the ability to create patterns, most stitchers will not find cross stitch designs to meet every need. A bespoke software program allows you to create cross stitch patterns more quickly and easily than drawing by hand. An added benefit is that computer generated charts are easier to use.

Several companies have developed cross stitch software. Prices vary depending upon the available functions.  Most software packages allow for importing various photo formats or scanning a photograph directly into the program. They generally include a tutorial, either as part of the software or on line, to simplify the process of creating patterns. For ease of use, each function usually appears in a separate window.

Before purchasing a specific software program dedicated to cross stitch, it is important to compare functions and prices. Many companies give you the option to download a trial version of their program that is fully functional for a short time. Others limit functions such as printing and saving during the trial period. Trying different programs is essential for choosing the right software.

One program with positive reviews is STOIK Hobby Software's PM Stitch Creator 3.0. The cost of the software is $49 with the option to download it directly after purchase. Receiving a compact disk by mail is probably a better option for anyone without high-speed access. PM Stitch Creator has won several Internet awards for quality.

HobbyWare has been in the cross stitch software market for over 14 years. They have developed Pattern Maker™ for cross stitch and the cost of the standard version is $60. Pattern Maker™ is compatible with the Microsoft Vista operating system, welcome news since many cross stitch programs only work with Microsoft XP. Other products are available including a professional version packaged with useful designs and motifs.

Web sites such as shopping.com might have a suitable software program specifically for cross stitch from as little as $10, but it is advisable to check out the manufacturer's website for a trial version before purchase. It is often possible to find similar software on auction web sites such as eBay.com or etsy.com. Needless to say, this eliminates the option to review the program.

Another free option is available on the Internet; at pic2point.com, a pattern can be created from any photograph. Simply upload the photograph and choose fabric count and floss colors. The resulting PDF pattern appears in minutes. Printing the chart will require several pages but the symbols are clear and easy to read.

A cross stitch software program is a great tool, especially for creating one-of-a-kind projects. Converting several photographs into cross stitch patterns for a quilt would make a wonderful family heirloom. The project possibilities are countless. Cross stitch software truly comes to YOUR rescue!
