Counted Cross Stitch Patterns -- The Basic of Cross Stitching Bliss
    Naomi Nicholson
    Printer-Friendly Format

Anyone who loves to cross stitch knows they need the counted cross stitch patterns if they hope to enjoy their favorite past time. There are a variety of patterns available online, as well as countless companies that produce cross stitch kits. Depending upon what type of themes you like to complete, counted cross stitch patterns abound.

Perhaps you're just starting down the road to cross stitching bliss. It is helpful to know there are two basic types of cross stitch patterns -- counted cross stitch and pre-printed or stamped cross stitch. Both types of patterns have benefits.

Many people who begin cross stitching begin with a stamped cross stitch kit. Stamped cross stitch patterns either have the entire pre-printed design, usually printed in blue, or a partial design printed on the Aida cloth. The major benefit of a stamped cross stitch pattern is that the chances of misplacing the image are limited. However, after a period time, cross stitchers begin looking for more of a challenge.

Counted cross stitch patterns are generally more challenging than the stamped cross stitch pattern. There is always the possibility that you may place a stitch or two differently from the pattern, but that is part of the challenge of the counted cross stitch. Catching and correcting any mistake you find can be frustrating, but they can help you become a better stitcher.

Another benefit to counted cross stitch patterns is that you can also make some modifications to the pattern. If you don't like the way a pattern looks, you can adjust it to suit your needs. You can also take components from one pattern and use it to create an entirely different design.

Finding just the right cross stitch pattern can also be frustrating; however it doesn't have to be. Take the opportunity to stop by your local craft store or discount store. Begin by looking to see what kits they have available.

If you don't find what you like, check out what's available on the internet. You may be able to find just what you're looking for. Start by searching for a favorite artist such as Claude Monet or Vince Van Gogh; or, if you prefer modern artists like Thomas Kinkade. Cross stitch patterns are available by these artists and many more.

Starting a new hobby, especially one as diverse as cross stitch, can be exciting. Choosing the counted cross stitch patterns to stitch can be frustrating. Overcome the frustration by deciding upon the type of cross stitch pattern you would like, and then searching for it online. The door to the world of cross stitch is wide open, take the step through, and find the bliss of cross stitch.
