Cross Stitch that Special Occasion: Some Ideas to Consider
    Marion Hernandez

Celebrate Anniversaries and Special Occasions in Cross Stitch

There is an endless variety of special occasions that briefly touch upon our lives: anniversaries, graduations, congratulations or a get well present for over coming a battle with one's health, baptism, bah mitzvah, becoming a grand parent, house warming present and many other special days. These are all occasions we should recognise and celebrate since life can be cruelly short and in today's busy world we tend not to celebrate with our loved ones as often as we should.

Cross stitching gifts for any occasion is that special way to show appreciation but when you go the extra step to recognize an occasion that is a once in a lifetime achievement, it adds an extra touch of pride to the event.  Family and friends can be so touched when you recognize their special moments and will always remember your thoughtfulness when they gaze at their beautifully cross stitched gift.

Some ideas for celebrating various occasions with a cross stitched gift are very unique. Graduations are an easy and special occasion to honor. So many cross stitch designs come with the option or area for personalization that it is quite easy to add in whatever phrase or date you desire.

Among the unique ways of personalizing a cross stitch gift for your graduate is of course to add a memorable date, or you can stitch in a favorite quote.  Many college or high school graduates will cherish an inspiring quote from their favorite authors to remember the hard work they have put in to achieve the completion of their education and receiving of their degrees.

Cross stitching a favorite quote among beautiful flowers or a serene scene can make a home décor piece that will be a welcoming sight hanging on any wall as well as embracing their accomplishment forever.

House warming presents are another good idea for this type of personalization; you can stitch the year the house was purchased or the date along with "The Smith Household" or any other endearing phrase.

There are also many religious ceremonies that can be honored as special days in our lives. The numbers of cross stitch designs that depict religious scenes through out history are immeasurable and very appropriate for many of these occasions, such as baptisms, christenings and bah mitzvahs.  This is a great project to make with oversized fabric so you may have the option of having the attending family and friends sign the edges for a complete look at the support received and special people in attendance of a time they may not recall later in life.

You can also personalize this gift with date and name of the person and occasion you are celebrating.  Many times this is a gift that will be looked at later in life and bring a fond sense of recognition to those long time family and friends whom have been there for them since birth or childhood.

Anniversaries are also very special and come along once a year, although there are those signature numbers 25th, 50th, etcetera that will always warrant a more honored gift.

Cross stitching a gift for any anniversary, whether one year or seventy-five, is a great idea.  Anniversaries come in many different forms, and there are numerous  occasions, other than wedding anniversaries, that you can celebrate that are special.

Buying your first home, recovering from a life threatening illness or finding remission from illness, becoming a mother, grand parent or a great grand parent, adopting a child, or winning an award through work or lifetime achievement are all days that too often go unnoticed and can warrant a special gift that really comes from the heart; a cross stitched personal piece of art.
